Ministry Staff
Ruffin AlphinSr. Pastor |
Growing up on a farm in Southeast Virginia, I had every intention of getting an agricultural degree and returning home to work with my father and brother. After coming to Christ in college and graduating from Va. Tech (perhaps this nation's finest university) with a B.S. in Animal Science, I did return home to farm, but for only two years. Believing the Lord was calling me into vocational ministry, my wife, Dorothy and our daughter, Allison, packed our Ryder truck and moved to Chattanooga, TN to begin attending Temple Baptist Seminary. After one year I transferred to Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana. Upon graduating with a Master of Divinity degree I pastored two years at a Brethren Church in that area. We then moved to Pittsburgh, PA where we ministered for nine years at Maranatha Bible Church. It was during this time that I began to embrace Reformed theology and eventually enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. In 1994 we moved back to Virginia to begin pastoring our first PCA church, Westminster Reformed Presbyterian in Suffolk. Since that time we have seen God's abundant blessing as He has deepened our passion for Him and expanded our ministry. I am senior pastor, with primary responsibilities in preaching, administration and counseling and have the privilege of overseeing a great staff. |

Brett CarlPastor for Missions and Jr. High |
I serve at Westminster as the Associate Pastor of Missions. I was born in Chicago, then moved to Grand Rapids at an early age. While I was attending a boarding school called Cushing Academy in Massachusetts for my Junior and Senior years of high school, a bus driver and janitor befriended me and led me to Christ at the age of 17. I attended Hillsdale College and graduated with a B.A. in Christian Studies and a minor in Music in 1994. While at Hillsdale, I was very involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and led small group Bible studies as well as large group worship. After college, I attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and graduated in 1997 with a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Biblical Studies. After seminary, I served at Eastern Shore Presbyterian Church as a youth director for two years and then came here to Westminster in August of 1999 with my wife, Debra. We have 3 beautiful daughters, Caitlin, Riley, and Addison. I had the privilege of being ordained as a teaching elder in the PCA in February of 2000. |

As the HOPE for Suffolk (Mercy Ministries) Coordinator, I have the privilege of working with members of our wider Suffolk community through prayer, counsel and financial assistance. I work with our team of volunteers and local organizations to address issues of poverty in Suffolk. Some of our initiatives include a community garden, adult literacy, mentoring and financial coaching. I graduated college from Samford University with a degree in Congregational Studies and then from Seminary at Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. I came to Westminster Church with over 10 years of youth and college ministry experience, and I am passionate about seeing people discover who God created them to be and walking with them as they live out that unique design. I love investing in, discipling and mentoring students. In my free time I love to go to the beach, go to movies, read books and listen to music. Here at Westminster I direct the overall youth ministry and invest in students as well as adult leaders. |

Linda CainDirector of Children's Ministries |
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. I became a Christian when I was 12 years old while attending Third Reformed Presbyterian Church. From that time forward, I was active in various ministries of the church. In 1972, I married my childhood sweetheart, Bob. We moved to Virginia as Bob was part of the U.S. Navy. I loved children and it wasn’t long before God blessed us with five of our own very wonderful children. We settled in Chesapeake and attended a PCA church for many years. As I grew in the Lord, (and in age), so did my love for people…especially children! I was given the opportunity to teach Sunday school, Children’s Choir, VBS and Jr. High Youth Group. Later I became Superintendent and went on to the role of Christian Education Director. After attending Westminster for a year, we transferred our membership in 1998 and have been active in the Children’s Ministries as well as the Christian Education Committee. As of December 2004, God has given me a wonderful opportunity to work full time as the Director of Children's Ministries. I am humbled as I realize what a blessing and a responsibility that has been entrusted to WRPC…children…lots of children! Children are gifts from God that we must share God’s truth with. As we oversee the programs from birth through 6th grade may it be said that we have been found faithful to our mission: “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power and the wonders he has done” (Psalm 78:4). |

Will LeeDirector of Discipleship Ministries |
I enjoyed growing up in a home where Christ was loved and honored. I always looked forward to opportunities to help out at our church when I was young, and from an early age I had a passion from God to disciple others. I've been privileged to serve the Kingdom of God in various ministry settings throughout high school and college both here in the US and overseas. After graduating from college with a degree in Bible and Communication, I married my best friend and moved to Virginia to study in seminary. I graduated with a M.Div. from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 2007, and came on staff at Westminster Church parttime in 2008. In July of 2009 I began working full time with our small group ministry and later took on the additional task of overseeing communications. In the fall of 2011 I began transitioning into the role I have now as Director of Discipleship Ministries. It is my responsibility to recruit and train our Community leaders, set vision, direction and strategy for our discipleship ministries, and help coordinate discipleship efforts from children through adults. I still have the task of directing Westminster's communication, which involves overseeing the church's website, Facebook page and much of the church's graphic design and print design. My wife, Carrie, and I have three amazing children, Daniel, Evelyn and Julia. |
