Renew Conference 2012

February 24-26, 2012

Voting for Jesus, Renew Conference 2012

February 24-26, 2012 we explored the intersections of politics and the gospel and sought answers to questions like these:

  • How can we be good citizens of this world while pledging our allegiance to Jesus the King?
  • What does it look like to engage political discussions in a truly Christian way?
  • How should the Church mantain her distinction from the state while speaking into crucial social and economic issues?

2012 Speakers

Read the speaker bios and the descriptions of their conference talks here.

Our keynote speakers this year are Carl Trueman, Professor of Historical Theology and Church History, Westmisnter Theological Seminary, and Mark Steiner, Professor of Communication at Christopher Newport University.

Dr. Trueman wrote the book, Republocrat: Confessions of a Liberal Conservative. Dr. Steiner wrote the book, The Rhetoric of Operation Rescue: Projecting the Christian Pro-Life Message.

Our workshop speakers included:

  • Camille Lewis, a rhetorician whose primary work involves examining the way Christians use language
  • Joe Kickasola, Old Testament scholar and Professor of International Policy at Regent University's School of Law
  • Dave Lamp, a military analyst working with the boundaries between human and machine decision making
  • Bob Willetts, Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in Chesapeake, Virginia
  • Larry Lewis, a research analyst for the US Joint Forces Command
  • Hayden Hill, Director of Hope for Suffolk, a community development initiative of Westminster Church.

All of these speakers brought unique perspectives to the table as we thought about what it means to be a Christian and a responsible citizen.
