Hope for Suffolk
HOPE for Suffolk is an outreach initiative of Westminster Church and exists to image Jesus Christ to our community by:
Community GardenThe Community Garden provides an opportunity for our community members to gain food from the work of their hands. To get involved, contact Hayden Hill, Mercy Ministries Coordinator at hayden@wrpca.org or call Hayden at the church office at 757-539-0540. Community Fellowship NightsCommunity Fellowship Nights are the first and third Wednesdays of every month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. At 7:00 we meet together to pray, sing, listen to a short message and share testimonies. Following the group gathering, participants choose from the following ministries available:
Food BankHOPE for Suffolk distributes between 20 and 70 bags of food to participants each month. This is made possible by donations of food from church donors. Food donations (non-perishables) should be dropped off in Room 203 (or outside of the room if a class is in progress). Click here for directions to the church. MentoringHOPE for Suffolk desires to engage participants in relationships that promote gospel transformation. Many of our participants need an encourager, listener or just a friend who will walk through difficult times with them. Mentors are paired with participants who request to be in a “mentor relationship.” Partnerships with local organizationsThe WRPC Local Missions Committee supports and partners with local organizations. See the Local Impact page for more information. PrayerThere is a team dedicated to praying for HOPE for Suffolk on a regular basis. Weekly prayer requests are sent to the team. If you would like to partner with this team, click here to fill out the HOPE prayer team interest form, and the prayer team leader will contact you. Adult LiteracyHOPE for Suffolk is partnering with the Suffolk Literacy Council to offer adult literacy tutoring. Tutors are trained by the SLC and are then paired with a student who has requested tutoring. WRPC is becoming an official SLC site. TutoringHOPE for Suffolk is seeking to develop a tutoring program in which we partner with a local school to offer tutoring for students who are struggling in school. TransportationOccasionally we have participants who are in need of emergency transportation. Volunteers who have signed up to assist are on stand by for such times. How You Can HelpIf you would like to help with any of these opportunities, please contact Hayden Hill, Mercy Ministries Coordinator, at hayden@wrpca.org or 757-539-0540. |
