I grew up in a Christian home in Columbia, South Carolina. I trusted Christ at the age of nine after hearing Dr. Billy Graham preach. During high school and college, I faced many of the temptations Christian students face on campus, and I began to subtly derive my sense of fulfillment from my accomplishments, goals, and the opinions of my peers.
I majored in accounting at the University of South Carolina, and during my junior year became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ. It was during this time that I really sensed my need to more fully depend upon Christ. I learned how to share the gospel, and became involved in campus bible studies.
After working one year as an accountant, I married Lesa Bowersox and joined the staff of Campus Crusade (1987). We served together in campus ministry at USC, and three years throughout Latin America (based out of Miami). Our sons Josh and Reid were both born in Miami.
In 1992 I sensed God’s call to attend seminary. Our family moved to Orlando, where I attended Reformed Theological Seminary. Upon graduation I accepted the call to become assistant pastor at Westminster PCA in Butler, PA. In 1997 I accepted the call to become the senior pastor of New Hope PCA in Eustis, Florida (Lesa’s hometown area).
After eight wonderful years at New Hope, I began to sense God’s calling to concentrate in the areas of pastoral counseling and shepherding. In May 2005, I accepted the call from Westminster Reformed to be assistant pastor of shepherding.
I am currently in my 3rd year of Doctoral Ministry program (counseling) at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.
